Success for Barnsley TTC Players at South Yorkshire Schools

01/03/2024

For the second year running, Barnsley TTC produced great performances and results at the South Yorkshire Schools Event which was held at the English Institute of Sport, with places at the National Finals available in Wolverhampton.

Everyone played with huge heart, desire and passion and there were some outstanding matches to watch. All players showed just how far they have come since last years event, we are thinking more about how we play, the shots we play and the serves that we use. We are so proud of everyone who played on Thursday. This event is a great feeder into a huge competition that is held annually. We are so proud to say that yet again, we were the winner of two categories. Troy Whitham won the under 16's event and didn't drop a single set all competition. Zunaira Chavan also booked her place in the finals for the second year running because yet again, she topped her group and did not drop a single set.

Connor Sherring played in the tournament for the first time, topping his group. Connor played in the semi final and put in such a strong performance however he just fell short. Sebastian Runcanu, Vlad Guran, Jake Smith, Reign Ando and Aliza Chavan all came runners up in their groups.

Troy and Zunaira will now play in Wolverhampton at the finals in April. We are looking forward to a great day of table tennis and we enter into a period of preparation for the event. Our Training Camp in April will be of huge benefit to Troy and Zunaira, who are both taking place.

Well done to everyone who played yesterday, it was a great event with lots of great table tennis and benefits. It always makes me proud when coaches and parents from other clubs compliment and say how much everyone has improved. Keep up the outstanding work everyone, I am so proud yet again!
